• The department recently moved to its new building since February 1997.
• This new building lies on the seaside of the Mediterranean Sea on the Eastern-Harbor of Alexandria near Kayet Bay Citadel.
• The name of the current Head of the department is Prof. A.Khalil (Biologist, macroalgae).
• It participates since 1997 with WMO in a project concerning studying role of aerosol in contributing different chemicals (nutrients and heavy metals) to the southeastern side of the Mediterranean Sea.Prof. Osman A. El-Rayis is the department principal investigator for this project.
• Prof. El-Rayis will participate in the conference about Marine Pollution organized by IAEA in Monaco in 4-9 Oct.1998.
