History
Historically, the Department of Oceanography is initiated in 1948 as part of the Faculty of Science and since then was headed by several famous oceanographers like Prof. H. Fawzy, A. Mohammed, A. Aleem and others. After 1969 It gives B.Sc. degree in Oceanography and Chemistry for undergraduate students beside the other degrees of Diploma of general Oceanography as well as M.Sc or Ph.D in either Chemical, Biological, Geological, or Physical Oceanography for postgraduate students. The department currently has 22 staff members in the various disciplines of Oceanography and Aquatic pollution . It is a good house of consultation for various aquatic environmental problems in the Mediterranean and Red Seas regions.
